Keep One Look Across Your Worship Set on Screen

Lyrics projected on the screen at the front of a church during worship

Over a few months, a church song library picks up a lot of different looks, especially when several ates and kuyas take turns adding songs. One volunteer likes a dark background. Another prefers large white text. Someone added a song in a font nobody else uses. Put those songs side by side in a worship set and the screens change style every few minutes.

People notice, even if they can't say why. A consistent look across a worship set keeps attention on the words. This post explains how to get there in Kastr without rebuilding your library.

Why a consistent look helps

Lyrics on a screen have one job: to be read quickly so people can sing. When the font, size or background changes between songs, every reader has to adjust. That small moment of searching for the line is the thing a good set design removes.

A consistent look also makes the set feel connected. Moving from one song to the next feels like part of the same time of worship, rather than a new presentation starting.

Start with themes

In Kastr a theme is a saved look: background, font, size, weight and letter case. Every workspace starts with three themes, Void, Navy and Mist. You can adjust those or create your own.

Open Themes in the sidebar, change the settings on the left and watch the stage preview update. Click Save theme when you're happy. Because themes live in the workspace, everyone on the team uses the same ones.

A good starting point is to keep a small number of themes. If your chapel has an old projector with weak brightness, a dark background with white text usually reads better than a busy photo. One for most Sundays, perhaps one for a special season and one for a brighter room. Fewer themes make it easier for the whole team to stay consistent.

Set the look for the program, not each song

You can assign a theme to a single song from the song editor. That works for the song's default look, but it doesn't solve a set built from songs with different themes.

The better tool for a worship set is the program theme. In a Kastr program you can set a program theme and lyric size that override every song's look for this set, without changing the songs themselves. The songs keep their own settings for any other program they appear in.

This means you can plan an Easter service with its own look, and next week's ordinary Sunday goes back to normal without anyone editing a song.

Choose a size the back row can read

Lyric size matters as much as the font, and it matters more when the projector is old and the screen is a white wall or a bedsheet. What looks large on a laptop can be hard to read from the back of a hall. Before Sunday, open the projector window on the real screen and walk to the back row.

When you edit a song, Preview size only changes the preview, so you can check a bigger size ahead without changing the song. Once you know what reads well in your room, set that lyric size on the program so every song in the set matches.

Match slides and media to the set

Songs aren't the only things on screen during worship. Welcome slides, scripture in Tagalog, Ilocano or English and announcements sit between them. If those use a very different style, the set still feels disjointed.

Custom slides in Kastr let you design welcome screens, announcements and sermon points with text and images, and change fonts, colors and the background from the panel on the right. Using the same colors and fonts as your main theme keeps the whole service consistent. Custom slides are part of Pro, at ₱650 a month paid with QR Ph, on both web and Windows.

Photos and videos from your media library play from the same setlist. Choosing images that suit your theme's colors helps too.

Change the look during the service if you need to

Sometimes the look needs to change after the service has started. Perhaps the room is brighter than expected, or the stream team asks for something easier to read. In the operator deck, you can switch the theme for the whole program mid-show, and the screens keep up.

Agree on a few house rules

Consistency is easier when the team agrees on it. Talk through a few simple rules with your volunteers. Which theme to use by default. How to show a Tagalog song next to an English one so both read the same. How many lines per slide. Whether lyrics use capitals for the first letter of each line or only for the first word.

Write the rules down somewhere the team can find them, and use them when anyone adds a new song. Over time the library becomes consistent on its own.
